Ministry - Service & Mission
Service is at the heart of the message
of Christ and the carving above our altar, "I am Among You as One Who
Serves" clearly states the centrality of that work in the life of our
church. In the Community Ministry and Mission pages we see how
this call is carried out among those around us. But churches
must minister to themselves along with others.
This page deals
with the programs at Trinity that deal with our
mission to our fellow congregation members, to those
who share our faith and our belief.
Stephen Ministry
The Stephen Ministry program uses lay
'ministers' to help congregation members deal
with difficult moments in their lives.
Maybe it's loneliness, aging issues, anxiety or
grief, or any number of other issues that confront you. A Stevens
Minister is a member of Trinity who has
volunteered for training and continuing ed to
enhance their listening and caring skills.
They are not counselors but caring friends who
will listen, support, and share with their
assigned care receiver. All relationships are confidential and on going until the Stephen Minister is no longer
needed. To request a Stephen Minister
please call the church office and speak to a minister.
Christcare This is
a small group ministry that combines worship,
fellowship, and service in an intimate, safe
environment. Generally Christcare groups consist
of somewhere between 5 and 10 individuals
(often, but not always, couples). Whether
acting as a touchstone for old friends, or as a
venue for drawing close to people you hardly
knew, Christcare provides a safe and secure way
to enjoy a close fellowship with others.
For more information, please contact the church
office.
Helping Hands When members are sick or in the hospital,
you can be part of a group that provide rides, brings meals, assists
with child care, and whatever else might be
needed to logistically help that member through
their crisis. To sign up for Helping
Hands, contact the church office or use the Pink
Slip in the Sunday bulletin.
United Methodist Women
For the better part of a century, UMW has
been a driving force in terms of mission and
caring for others and although many women
can no longer meet during the day as part of
a 'circle' (Trinity still has three), UMW is
still alive and well and working to make our
community a better place. But it is
also the touchstone spot for women in the
United Methodist Church, providing them with
not only a voice but a chance to meet and
share with each other.
Fish Drivers
Fish is a community organization that
provides rides to senior citizens.
Congregation members volunteer one day a month to
take those who cannot drive on their own to doctor
appointments and other essential trips.
Blood Drive
I was actually tempted to put this one under
Fellowship. I mean everybody's together just
lying there. But some people thought it would
be inappropriate. Whatever. What is
important is that Trinity hosts a blood drive for
the Grand Valley Blood Bank four times a year.
All drives are held on Sunday AM, from 9:00 AM to
about 12:30 PM. For more information on the
dates for these drives (Feb 24, June 29, September
21, and December 7 in 2008), contact the church
office.
