Community Ministries
- Kid's Club
Kid's Club is a program that provides a safe place
for children to have fun and learn about God’s love
through people who care about them. Trinity opens
its doors to children grades 3rd through
6th from several commun-ity schools to
participate in a variety of activities. The program
consists of three components, which include
recreation time, mealtime, and activities. All three
are ways for the children to interact, learn new
skills and have fun.
Recreation Time
Kid's Club starts by
providing the opportunity to learn new athletic
skills and also practice teamwork. It is a time for
children to play a sport they know (basketball)
while enhancing their knowledge of the game and
learn about new sports that they may not be exposed
to ordinarily. Kids learn basic rules of the game
and also learn team strategies. It is a time for
kids to get physical exercise and learn about
playing fair. Additional gym activities may include
jump rope, volleyball, wiffle ball and football.
The second piece to recreation time is spent playing
various board and problem solving games with the
adult volunteers. It allows for conversations to
take place so that the kids build relationships with
caring adults.
Mealtime
These conversations continue as the children divide
into their group assignments. The children receive
a healthy balanced meal during this time and work on
table manners and appropriate social behavior.
During meal time we include a spiritual component
involving discussion of a weekly Bible verse and
prayer. Intermittently, the children receive visits
from the pastor and participate in a hands on Bible
lesson.
Activity Time
The final component and provides a variety of
things the children take part in on a weekly,
rotating basis. This is where the children are
allowed to explore creativity and learn a multitude
of skills while in the process. The groups stay
intact to allow for a sense of familiarity for the
kids.
One activity
the kids take part in is cooking.
Cooking provides the opportunity to learn how to
read recipes and to use math skills to measure
ingredients. The kids learn proper hygiene for
meal preparedness and learn to operate the oven
and other equipment while using utensils
safely. After the food is prepared the children
learn how to clean up after themselves and put
everything back where they found it.
Another
activity is arts and crafts where the
children learn to create and design different
products. It is a time for them to use their
own ideas with the different art projects that
they work on. This is the best chance to use
the creativity that all the children possess.
Many of the projects allow for the children to
take them home and share with their families.
Public
speaking is another
activity that the children participate in. This
allows the children to work on proper speech and
tone while delivering a verbal message. These
messages include anything from personal
introductions to presentations on hygiene. The
children also engage in respectful listening and
have the opportunity to learn how to effectively
convey a verbal message to a group.
The children
also have opportunities to work on computers
skills, researching information as well
as playing games.
In addition,
each child is given the opportunity to stay late
to work on school work with tutoring available.
They can choose between assignments that they
received from their teachers or educational
games provided by Kids Club staff.
