Community Ministries
More than a decade ago, Trinity faced a question;
flee to the suburbs like so many other metropolitan churches, or stand
where we were and fight for those who couldn't fight for themselves.
The decision now is obvious. Trinity chose to
stay where we were planted and to invest in the community. For the past
decade plus our Community Ministry program has been ministering to a
part of our city that is often forgotten and neglected.
When it started, the program targeted elementary age
students providing 'a safe place
with caring adults', but we quickly found that when some of our members
graduated from elementary school they kept coming back and so we
established the Teen Club. Initially it was designed for students
in grades 7 - 12, but once again, when some of
those students graduated they still wanted to keep coming. Today
our program serves those in grades 3 - 12+ with a growing number of older
teens and 20's who are in college or the work force.
The program
now runs four days a week from October through April, plus a six week
summer session that starts before noon and often runs until well in
the evening. For a full list of the programs we run (and the
opportunities there are for volunteering) please see our 'Program
Schedule' in the left margin.
